STORIES

SAVE OUR SECRET BALLOT

In the opening days of the Obama Administration payback to Big Labor was front and center in the form of “Card Check” – allowing Unions to skip a secret ballot election when unionizing a business. While everyone else was trying to beat the bill in Congress, we decided to kill the idea.

Working with Clint Bolick, then at Goldwater Institute and now an Arizona Supreme Court Justice, we crafted a simple constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to a secret ballot for all elections, including Union organizing elections – “Save Our Secret Ballot.”

With efforts in a dozen states to raise, explain and polarize the issue, we successful put SOS Ballot to the ballot in 4 states in 4 different US Circuit Courts. We worked with Bolick in Arizona, now US Senator Mike Lee In Utah, now Governor Kristi Noem in South Dakota and now Governor Henry McMaster in South Carolina, with great results – Four States – Four Wins!  Utah 60%, Arizona 61%, South Dakota 79%, South Carolina 86%.

When the inevitable challenge by the Obama Administration went to the 9th Circuit Court, some once again questioned our strategies. But with a win even in the crazy-liberal 9th Circuit, “Card Check” the idea, not just the legislation died.

Alabama, Indiana and Tennessee have been added to the success list with the Tennessee SOS Ballot law killing the AFL-CIO’s efforts to unionize auto plant in the south. It’s no surprise that Boeing, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and others have opened and expanded manufacturing in SOS Ballot protected states.

With a Biden-Harris presidency, Card Check may be back from the grave. Now it’s time to pass SOS Ballot elsewhere to ensure “Card Check” stays dead, and the sanctity of the Secret Ballot is protected.

RIGHT TO TRY

The idea originates from strategic partner Chuck Warren of September Group – make FDA Stage-1 approved experimental drugs and treatments available for terminally-ill patients.

We worked together on the initial quantitative and qualitative research and gave the idea its iconic name – “Right-to-Try”. Working once again with the Goldwater Institute we passed a referral to the ballot in Arizona…because passing “Right-to-Try” at the ballot would make its passage easier elsewhere.

With a win of 78% on the Arizona ballot, the Goldwater Institute parlayed that success to passage in 41 states and now Federally, with President Trump signing the bill into law.

CITIZEN VOTERS

Did you know Nancy Pelosi’s California, Barack Obama’s Illinois, Bernie Sander’s Vermont, Elisabeth Warren’s Massachusetts, Michael Bloomberg’s New York, as well as a dozen cities in Maryland are allowing Non-Citizens to legally vote?  Tied with the movement to allow 16-year old minors to vote, the Left is calling it “The newest civil right.”

We’re calling it an opportunity to win big and make the opposition pay politically. Forty-five state constitutions do not specifically limit voting to US Citizens age 18+.

These state constitutions have nearly the same language – “Every citizen over the age of 18 shall be an elector.” But this only says who can, not who can’t vote. By simply striking “Every Citizen” and replacing with “ONLY A CITIZEN” we constitutionally protect our elections for our adult citizens.

With decisive wins – Alabama 77%, Colorado 63%, Florida 78%, North Dakota 66% - we’ve proven it…Get this to the ballot and it’s going to win – and whomever champions it will gain politically too.

Let’s kill these crazy ideas of Non-Citizen and 16-year old children voting now, before they get any further traction.

BACK THE BLUE

The violence against our First Responders has been heartbreaking. Our choices are to curse the night or do something about it. And we will! Our next policy idea is Back the Blue. It will do three things.

  • Increase to felony penalties any physical or doxx attack against a First Responder – Police, Fire, EMP, National Guard, Border Guard, ICE, Prison Guard, Capitol Police.

  • Provide for a $1 million life insurance policy and college or trade school scholarships for surviving spouse and dependents of First Responders killed in the line of duty.

  • Pay for it with a 2% surcharge on civil and criminal penalties.

To no surprise this polls off-the-charts. Best yet it gives us opportunities to organize supporters in key demographics and geographics previously difficult. Our goal is to get “Back the Blue” on as many ballots as possible in 2022.

KEEP OUR KIDS DRUG FREE

It’s a shocking statistic, but also provides a roadmap for improvement. If someone has a drug problem bad enough to seek treatment, the average age of first use is 14. For alcohol, the average age of first use is just 12. But if first use occurs  after age 18, the chances of developing a problem bad enough to seek treatment falls by 70%!

The Goal – Increase the Age of First Use.

  • Increase the penalties for cash transactions on the sale of drugs, including marijuana, alcohol, tobacco and vape by anyone over age 21 to anyone under age 18.

  • Fund voluntary treatment, counselling and education for minors.

  • Pay for it with a 2% surcharge on civil and criminal penalties and/or an additional tax on legalized marijuana sales.

If we can raise the average age of first use for drugs, alcohol, tobacco and vape to over 18, we can dramatically decrease abuse and addiction.

Thankfully, the voting public is strongly with us.

With this polling data, we strongly believe Keep Our Kids Drug Free is a winner at the ballot. And winning at the ballot will help show needed public support for battling the expansion of the drug culture in our country.

CIVIC EDUCATION INITATIVE

When the Joe Foss Institute contacted us to help come up with a game plan to place civics education as part of the required achievement tests, we warned the battle over what was tested could be fierce. That’s why we came up with the idea that all High Schoolers should be required to pass the same test every naturalized citizen is required to pass.

The idea was simple, straight forward…if it’s what every naturalized citizen needs to know to be a good citizen, so should our High School graduates.

With the help of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, former US Senators Jon Kyl & Dennis DeConcini, journalist Carl Bernstein, actor Richard Dreyfuss, successful gubernatorial candidates Eric Greitens (MO) and Doug Ducey (AZ), we put together an aggressive lobbying campaign that led to the Civics Education Initiative passing in multiple states.
